Then hold down Ctrl (the control key) on the keyboard and press B on the keyboard. To make text italic, select and highlight the text first. Then hold down Ctrl (the control key) on the keyboard and then press the I on the keyboard. To underline text, select and highlight the text first.
Go to Insert Special Characters Format & Whitespace Whitespace, and select the ninth from the left on the top row: PUNCTUATION SPACE or U+2008. It presents a uniform space for Docs to underline. Then copy it (ctrl+c) and paste it (ctrl-v) where you need it.
Select the text you want to modify. Click the bold (B), italic (I), or underline (U) button from the shortcut toolbar.

Place the insertion point where you want the ruling line (underlining). On the Format menu, click Font. In the Underline style box, select the line style you want, and then click OK. For every blank space you want to underline, press CTRL+SHIFT+SPACEBAR.

You should go to Settings > General > Accessibility and turn on/off Button Shapes and then revisit the app in question. You should only see underlines and shapes when this control is on, and this is to indicate what buttons that look like text are actually tappable for those with accessibility needs.
To create bolded text in discord, all you have to do is start and end the bolded text with two asterisks (*). The asterisk is SHIFT+8 on your keyboard. If you look at the image below, you'll notice that I put two asterisks, or stars, in front of and after the text I wanted to be in bold.
To write in italics (i.e. using slanted letters), press the toolbar button or use the Ctrl+I keyboard shortcut. To underline the text (i.e. draw a horizontal line underneath the letters), press the toolbar button or use the Ctrl+U keyboard shortcut.
We use italics (characters set in type that slants to the right) and underlining to distinguish certain words from others within the text. These typographical devices mean the same thing; therefore, it would be unusual to use both within the same text and it would certainly be unwise to italicize an underlined word.
