Manuscript paper (sometimes staff paper in U.S. English, or just music paper) is paper preprinted with staffs ready for musical notation.
Open the Microsoft Word document where you want to add musical symbols to the text. Click the "Symbol" button on the Insert tab and then select "More Symbols" from the bottom of the menu. Select "Arial Unicode MS" or "MS UI Gothic" from the Font category menu.
Click the second "Format" tab and click the "Group" icon. Click "Group" from the drop-down menu. Copy and paste the staffs to make a music sheet. Press "Ctrl-C" to copy the grouped lines and "Ctrl-V" to paste a copy of the entire staff onto the page, or into another document.
Click the "Symbol" button on the Insert tab and then select "More Symbols" from the bottom of the menu. Select "Arial Unicode MS" or "MS UI Gothic" from the Font category menu. Select "Miscellaneous" from the Subset category menu to quickly jump to the music symbol section of the list.
Using Alt Codes Alt codes are typed using the numeric keypad. To insert an eighth note symbol (), hold the Alt key and type 13 using the numeric keypad. To insert a beamed eighth note (), hold the Alt key and type 14 using the numeric keypad.
