Do you need a license to pull a permit?
For any major construction or repairs on your home, permits must be pulled by a licensed contractor. Knowing full well that they will not be able to pull a permit without the proper license, the contractor will ask the homeowner to pull it instead.
Can a handyman pull a permit?
Yes a handyman/woman can pull permits for your project if they have a letter from you (the homeowner) authorizing them to act as an agent on your behalf. However, in order to obtain a permit you will need to have drawings done and stamped with a BIN or Building Code Identification Number.
What type of work can a handyman do legally?
Well, take a closer look at what you are being allowed to do! Handymen can do repairs all day long. They can do maintenance, minor jobs like installing trim, power washing and staining a deck, trash hauling, touching up paint, or minor dry rot repairs, furniture and cabinet assembly.
