Text classification process involves following main steps for classification of news article. The first step of news classification is accumulating news from various sources.

Automatic document classification can be defined as content-based assignment of one or more predefined categories (topics) to documents. This makes it easier to find the relevant information at the right time and for filtering and routing documents directly to users.
Sensitivity is based upon a calculation of the damage to national security that the release of the information would cause. The United States has three levels of classification: Confidential, Secret, and Top Secret. Each level of classification indicates an increasing degree of sensitivity.
Classified information can be designated Top Secret, Secret or Confidential. These classifications are only used on matters of national interest. Top Secret: applies when compromise might reasonably cause exceptionally grave injury to the national interest. The possible impact must be great, immediate and irreparable.
A classification level must be assigned to information when that information is determined to be classified. The U.S. classification of information system has three classification levels -- Top Secret, Secret, and Confidential -- which are defined in EO 12356.
The Simplest way to do text categorization is to use bag-of-words representation. Words/ n-grams of words in each document could be used as features. With this you can represent every document as vector in metric space. Subsequently, you can apply clustering to group documents that are similar in terms of content.
