How do Tag headers work?
The Tag (or Entity Tag) works similarly to the Last-Modified header except its value is a digest of the resources contents (for instance, an MD5 hash). This allows the server to identify if the cached contents of the resource are different to the most recent version.
What is the Tag header?
The Tag HTTP response header is an identifier for a specific version of a resource. It lets caches be more efficient and save bandwidth, as a web server does not need to resend a full response if the content has not changed.
How is Tag calculated?
An Tag (entity tag) is an HTTP response header returned by an HTTP/1.1 compliant web server used to determine change in content at a given URL. We can use Tags for two things caching and conditional requests. The Tag value can be thought of as a hash computed out of the bytes of the Response body.
Are HTTP headers cached?
HTTP cache headers explained. Caches work with content mainly through freshness and validation. In cases where there is no validator present (e.g. Tag or Last-Modified header), and a lack of explicit freshness info, it will usually (but not always) be considered unfaceable.
How do I add a cache control header?
This means that HTTP 1.1 caches (proxy and browser) will be able to take advantage of Cache-Control settings you make. To use Cache-Control headers, choose Content Management | Cache Control Directives in the administration server. Then, using the Resource Picker, choose the directory where you want to set the headers.
How is Tag used?
An entity tag (Tag) is an HTTP header used for Web cache validation and conditional requests from browsers for resources. Most typically, Tags request Web resources on the condition that they have been updated since the user's last visit to the site.
How is Tag generated?
Tag generation The method by which Tags are generated has never been specified in the HTTP specification. Common methods of Tag generation include using a collision-resistant hash function of the resource's content, a hash of the last modification timestamp, or even just a revision number.
How are weak Tags different from strong Tags?
Strong v/s Weak Tags Tag supports strong and weak validation of the resource. Strong Tag indicates that resource content is same for response body and the response headers. Weak Tag indicates that the two representations are semantically equivalent. It compares only the response body.
