Using SPLIT Open the Google Docs spreadsheet containing the column you want to split. Right-click the column's title, which contains the letter for that column. Click “Insert 1 Right.” Repeat this process for the number of columns into which you want to split the cell.
As a workaround, you can't actually split the cell, but you can merge the cells that surround it and keep the cell that you want to split as two separate rows. First, highlight the cell/row/column you would like to split. 2. Then go to the Format tab in Google Docs.
Unfortunately, Google Docs doesn't yet have the ability to split a cell in a table unless that cell had previously been merged. You can fake the effect by creating more columns than you need and merging some them.
Split cell into columns in Google sheet. If you want to split a single cell to columns, you can select a cell which you will place the result, type this formula =SPLIT(A1,” “) (A1 is the cell you split, is the separator you split based on), and press Enter key. Now the cell has been split.
You might want to split a cell into two smaller cells within a single column. Unfortunately, you can't do this in Excel. Instead, create a new column next to the column that has the cell you want to split and then split the cell. You can also split the contents of a cell into multiple adjacent cells.
