How long do you need a permit to get a license?
No matter how the test is taken, students must pass with at least a 70% or higher, depending on that state's minimum. Once he or she passes, a teen driver will be issued a learners permit. Some states require teen drivers to have a permit for a minimum of 6 months before they can take their driver's license exam.
Do you need a permit to get your license?
Many states don't require first-time drivers to first obtain a learner's permit. Instead, they must satisfy additional requirements. First-time drivers under 18 must successfully complete a driver's education course and log 40 hours of supervised driving time before they can apply for a standard license.
Do you need a permit to take a drivers test?

Can I get my license at 18 without a permit in California?
Even if you're over the age of 18, you cannot drive alone with only a learner's permit. Until you have your regular license, you must bring a parent, guardian, spouse, or other adult who is at least 18 years old (25 if you're under 18) and has a valid license with you when you drive.
How do I get my license at 16?
Be 16 years old. Have held your California instruction permit for a minimum of six months. Have completed driver education. Have completed 6 hours of professional driver training. Select a driving school. Have completed 50 hours of practice with an adult 25 of age years or older.
