You can use several different types of vinegar to remove hard water stains, including white vinegar and apple cider vinegar. Try using whatever you have on hand first. If it doesn't do the trick, look for cleaning vinegar, which is more acidic for superior power against hard water stains.
There are plenty of DIY natural remedies out there, but we find that the best hard water stain remover is a paste of white vinegar and baking soda. Spread over affected surfaces, let it sit for 30 minutes, then wipe clean with a dry microfiber cloth to quickly brighten bathroom surfaces.
Thankfully, most watermarks are not permanent, and it's almost always possible to get rid of the stains from your wood surface, depending on the intensity of the stain and condition of the wood.
In a small bowl, mix equal parts vinegar and olive oil. Apply the mixture to the water stain using a cloth. Wipe in the direction of the wood grain until the stain is gone. The vinegar will help remove the stain while the olive oil acts as a furniture polish.
Water staining is a patch of mineral deposits formed at certain places where water evaporates. Hard water contains large amounts of minerals such as potassium, silica and calcium. Water stains and spots develop on surfaces when water evaporates and the leftover minerals accumulate, making a dull patch on the surface.
Hard water stains can become permanent if left too long. It's best to remove hard water stains as soon as they appear. While it may be tempting to let a mild stain sit until cleaning day, the longer it sits the harder it is to remove.
Water-based stain will last 1 year, if opened, and 2 years, if unopened. Oil-based varnishes will be good for 1 year, opened or unopened. Opened cans of glazing compound will last for 1 year, unopened cans for 2 years, if kept above freezing.
Make a paste of white, non-gel toothpaste and baking soda. Apply the mixture using either a soft cloth or an old toothbrush. Gently rub the spot in a circular motion until it disappears. Being gentle is most important here – you can remove or scratch your furniture's finish if you apply too much pressure.

Fabrics. Water spots on fabrics are caused by the dislodging of sizing or finishing agents found in many garments. Water dislodges these agents and causes them to form rings on the material surface. To remove water spots, dampen the entire area with water and allow to dry.
