This statement is still true (I am still using the trial version, so I haven't had enough time using it yet). I am also new to my position; therefore, it will take time, before I know of the various ways that I could utilize this software. It IS hard to get into OT programs unless you are able to stand out in some way above other applicants. I say this because in the school that I was accepted into there were over 300 applicants for 30 positions. And this is supposedly not that unusual. All the applicants met minimum GPA and other requirements.
These courses are almost always in the beginning, which helps ensure that admitted students can handle the rigors of graduate school. While it's not easy, the OT school curriculums do a good job of providing you a solid foundation as you begin your occupational therapy career.
It's okay to be upset. Many people get into OT school on the second or third application process. Look at your application and find room for improvement. Take the next year to really beef up your application. Budget for increased applications for next year.
Is becoming an occupational therapist worth the cost? The financial answer is yes, but there is a significant price to pay. For most occupational therapists, they will have to deal with student loans for 10 to 20 years won't necessarily be able to celebrate and enjoy that higher income until their loans are dealt with.
Also, working while in OT school is certainly possible, I work 20 hours per week and am a full time student.
The answer is yes, it is hard to get into programs. The few exceptions are private schools which cost a lot more than a state university, so there is less competition due to fewer people trying to get in. The question you should be asking yourself though, is, do I want to be an Occupational Therapist?
OT school prerequisites are an important portion of the application process, so it's recommended that you have as high of a GPA in these core courses as possible, with at least a 3.0 or B in each course. If you can though, really strive to get A's in these prerequisite courses.
