What causes Excel file bloat?
The biggest contributor to bloat is not actually the amount of data or the number of cells containing data on a sheet, but rather the size of the area of cells which Excel thinks are being used in some way. This is called the 'Used Range'.
Why is my Excel file suddenly huge?
This is what makes the file so large: Excel is picking up a lot of empty cells and thinks there's data in them, which then it tries to save into the XLSX file on disk, and because it needs to keep references to all those hundreds or thousands of cells, the file size gets overblown.
How do I reduce the KB of a picture in Excel?
Compress individual pictures With your file open in your Microsoft Office application, select the picture or pictures that you want to compress. Under Picture Tools, on the Format tab, in the Adjust group, click Compress Pictures.
