How do you read a Log MAR chart?

Each letter has a score value of 0.02 log units. Since there are 5 letters per line, the total score for a line on the Log MAR chart represents a change of 0.1 log units. The formula used in calculating the score is: Log MAR VA = 0.1 + Log MAR value of the best line read 0.02 X (number of prototypes read)

How do you calculate Log MAR?

The log MAR VA can be calculated as 0.1 (8) + (2) (0.02) = 0.84 log MAR. The formula: log MAR score (0.1 NL + 0.02 NL) where NL = number of lines completely read and NL = number of additional letters read AP- plies. For this method, the higher the log MAR VA score, the better the visual acuity.

What do the numbers on the Snellen chart mean?

The top number refers to your distance in feet from the chart. The bottom number indicates the distance at which a person with normal eyesight can read the same line. For example, if you have 20/30 vision, it means your vision is worse than average.
