The most common paper used to print diplomas and certificates is parchment. This paper is thick and has a vintage look. These certificates are generally compatible with laser printers, inkjet printers, and copiers. Typewriters can also print on parchment paper.
Most diplomas and certification documents today are printed on archival paper produced from treated pulp or rag (cotton). If you have a diploma that is fairly old, it could be made with sheepskin or parchment. Parchment is a thin material that's made from sheepskin, calfskin, or goatskin.
A certificate template defines the policies and rules that a CA uses when a request for a certificate is received. Many built-in templates can be viewed using the Certificate Templates snap-in (see Figure 12.17).
Open Word, and on the side menu, click on New. Click on the Search Box and type certificate to display a number of certificate templates. Select a certificate template from the options provided and click on Create. The selected certificate will open as your new document.
In the Certification Authority MMC, click Certificate Templates. On the Action menu, point to New, and then click Certificate Template to Issue. The Enable Certificate Templates dialog box opens. In Enable Certificate Templates, click the name of the certificate template that you just configured, and then click OK.
Open Word and select New. In the Search text box, type Certificate to filter for certificate templates. Choose a template, then select Create. The certificate opens as a new document.
