For pdfFiller’s FAQs

Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Period after a single word Sometimes a single word can form the sentence. In this case you place a full stop after the word as you would in any other sentence. This is often the case when the subject is understood as in a greeting or a command.
Ellipsis. An ellipsis (plural ellipses. From the Ancient Greek:, ellipsis, 'omission' or 'falling short') is a series of dots (typically three, such as “") that usually indicates an intentional omission of a word, sentence, or whole section from a text without altering its original meaning.
We've agreed that putting a period after a one-word response in a text conveys something like abruptness, annoyance, negativity.
An ellipsis () is used to denote that something is being left out of the sentence in formal writing, or someone's voice or thought that is fading in informal writing. The two dots are used by people that don't understand that there are supposed to be three dots.
LOL is used in lieu of a period, as a way to break up a sentence, and when you don't know what else to say. Um is to real-life conversation as LOL is texting.
In some contexts sending a single period (or something of that ilk) is used to “keep the line open” and indicate that the person is still there on the other end (perhaps awaiting something from your end).
It's true that years ago, everyone used two spaces after a period and before the beginning of the next sentence. But these days, the rule is that all types of written material should use one space. A single justified word space will be used between sentences.
The basic rule is that if there's a period at the end it's a sentence. So “I love my cat.” is a good sentence, but “But I love my cat.” is grammatically incorrect. It's a fragment. Also, a comma goes before 'but' when there is a full sentence on each side.
