Rosy Boas do not have venom that is dangerous to most humans. Rosy boas are thick-bodied slow-moving snakes of deserts and rocky shrublands in southern California. They are most often active at night, and in the evening.
Rosy boas are small compared to their South American boa cousins. Adults range in size from 2 to 4 feet, with females being dramatically larger than males. This species is one of the longest lived boas. Average life span is 20+ years, however, specimens living well into their 30's are not uncommon.
Rosy Boa Naturally curious, Rosy Boas hardly bite or strike and are certainly easy for beginners because they enjoy being handled. They can live up to 30 years in captivity and can cost $25-$350, depending on if you get your snake from a public retailer or a private breeder.
The rosy boa (Charina trivirgata or Lichanura trivirgata) is a species of snake in the family Boidae. The rosy boa is native to the American Southwest and Baja California and Sonora in Mexico.
Rosy boas generally use the ambient temperature to determine when they are active. In hotter climates during summertime they will be nocturnal, meaning they are active and hunt at night. During the change of season, they will become more crepuscular, meaning they are active and hunt during dawn and dusk.
Rosy Boas are native to the southwestern United States in both California and Arizona, and northwestern Mexico in Baja California and Sonora. They are found in both Colorado and Mojave deserts and coastal areas around Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Diego counties.
