S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Guide Pyramid (Figure 2). The Estimated Average Requirement (EAR) for rice is provided in the right column. It is calculated by multiplying the Recommended Daily Allowance by the actual RDA. Since a standard serving size for rice is 2 servings, this will also make Rice Bran the single most important food for dietary calcium intake. The RDA is much higher than the estimated EAR for milk or other dairy products. The RDA for milk is based on the USDA Food Guide Pyramid, which recommends 4 servings of milk, for a total of 9 servings in the average American diet (25). Thus, milk is recommended to have an EAR of 1,680 mg/day to meet calcium food requirement. Therefore, the RDA for rice is 1,600 mg/day. Rice Bran does not have a specific intake recommendation according to the Food and Nutrition Board Report [35], and no studies have been carried out to determine whether the level of cereal fiber required by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is within the RDA range.
