A field code is smart text once inserted, they can automatically update when needed. There are hundreds of field codes for various purposes, one of the most common being the codes for page numbers and the current date.
Fields in Microsoft Word are used as placeholders for data that might change in a document, and for creating form letters and labels in mail-merge documents. These kinds of fields are also called field codes, and they are different from the type of fields that are used to enter information, such as on a form.
Press Alt+F9. This makes all the field codes in your document visible, instead of the results of those fields. Choose Find from the Edit menu, or simply press Ctrl+F. Word displays the Find dialog box. In the Find What box, enter ^d as what you are searching for (make sure you use a lowercase d). ... Click on Find Next.
