Contact Support
The first option is to give the car back with the damage and take whatever damage penalty the dealer and leasing company will charge him. ... Of course, if the dealer's fee for returning the car damaged is more than Aaron deductible for repair, then he should just process the claim through the insurance company.
You then decide whether to repair the damage at your own expense (or through your insurance) before returning the car, or return the car damaged and pay the leasing company's damage penalty. If you do return the car with damage, you pay the penalty whether or not the dealer actually repairs it.
Mileage overage Under-mileage: If your estimated mileage will be under your allowance, you can just return the vehicle at the end of the lease. If you purchased additional mileage (but didn't use it), this is often refundable, but there is no credit for being under the mileage in the lease contract.
Excess Wear and Tear Most leases charge you for any damages made to the vehicle. ... Cracks, cuts, tears or stains that are more than 1/2 inch may be considered excess wear and tear. Four or more dents or scratches that break the paint are also often considered excess wear and tear.
Most of the time, the vehicle you're leasing will still be covered by the manufacturer's warranty, so you won't have to foot the bill for expensive repairs. There's a good chance that basic maintenance, like oil changes, will also be covered in your lease agreement or car warranty.
As stated in your lease contract, you must turn in your vehicle at the end of the leasing term. While repercussions and penalties are further stated in your contract, you can expect significant penalty fees or a repossession if you do not return the car, as the vehicle is not yours if it is not paid for.
When you sign an auto lease, you may notice a sign in the finance manager's office stating, "There is no cooling off period." Unlike a mortgage or other loan, a car lease contract is final, and there is no three-day right to rescind your contract. You cannot turn in your keys and change your mind.
In some states, a cooling off period is required for certain contracts, which give signers a window of time, typically one to three days, during which they can void the contract if they change their mind.
Grace Period Your lease contract should have a section or clause covering the details of cancellation. ... This short period -- maybe 24 or 48 hours -- could be the only time you could back out of the lease and return the car without penalty. If your lease doesn't mention a grace period, you don't have this option.
The short answer: It depends, but you can probably back out. The longer answer: There's a concept in contract law known as consideration. ... If you agree to buy a car, sign paperwork, etc. but then never take possession of the car you may be able to argue the contract was never actually executed.
