The simple fact, though, is that you don't have to do anything explicit to indicate the end of a manuscript. The fact that there are no more words or pages after a certain point should indicate the ending all on its own.
How do I format my manuscript to the industry standard? Luckily for you, formatting your manuscript can be summarized in a few bullet points: Set the margins for your document at 3cm on all four sides. Align to the left hand side only; the right hand side should remain jagged.
It depends on the font you are using, of course, but in general, 250-300 words per page. Therefore, a 55,000 word book should be about 200 manuscript pages. A 100,000 word book would be about 400.
At that length, it's a novella. Pretty much, it's about 250 words per page for a novel. Heavy dialogue will mess with that, but for the most part it's going to be 250 a page. If you have 50,000 words, that should be 200 pages.
However, it will be on the short side, as the average length of a novel hovers around 50,000-70,000 words. That said, if your book is around 40,000 words, you're in good company. C.S.
Single spaced, 3000 words yields about 6 pages, while double spacing produces around 12 pages. Depending on your word processor and preferences the page count may vary slightly, but with typical margins and 12 point Arial or Times New Roman font you should expect a similar number of pages.
30,000 words is 60 pages single spaced, 120 pages double spaced. 40,000 words is 80 pages single spaced, 160 pages double spaced. 50,000 words is 100 pages single spaced, 200 pages double spaced. 60,000 words is 120 pages single spaced, 240 pages double spaced.
Build to an intriguing climax. Make sure your ending is earned, not improbable. Leave room for readers' imaginations. Review the best novel endings for insight into how to end a book. Bring home how your characters have changed. Use the '5 W's' to create finality.
Wrapping up loose ends. I've already said that endings wrap up a hero's journey, but don't forget to wrap up any other loose ends lying around. ... Test readers matter. ... Writing the ending first. ... Writing several endings. ... Researching different endings. ... The last line matters.
The end of the story is what comes after the climax. The end is a page or brief chapter that simply alludes to how characters have changed and states what will or will not happen to those characters after the reader finishes the book. Nothing else happens in the story after the end.
