A player may stop, catch, throw, bounce or strike the ball in any manner and in any direction, using hands, fists, arms, head, body, thighs or knees. However, a player may not intentionally touch the ball with any part of the body below the knee. The ball is almost always played with the hands.
No tripping, pushing, hitting, clinching, charging or holding is allowed in handball.

If a defender fouls in any way while an attacking player is attempting to shoot a goal, they will be punished and the opposition team is offered a 7mts throw from the goal post.
Tripping, pushing, charging, hitting, or grabbing your opponent is not allowed in handball and can lead to a foul. Fouls can result in a free throw for the other team or more serious punishments such as disqualification.
A true handball is referred to as an "ace ball" or, in earlier days, "blackball". A racquetball used to play handball is called a "big ball" or "big blue".
In the UK the sport used to be called 'handball' – but this was easily confused with the completely unrelated sport of 'Team Handball'. The name 'Wallball' is now being embraced by the world as the sport goes for Olympic inclusion for 2028.
