Where does the napkin go when setting a table?
Folded napkin to the right of the plate, knife and spoon on top of it (knife closest to the plate), fork on the left side. For a more formal affair, the napkin goes on the plate, the salad fork goes outside the regular fork, dessert silverware goes above the plate sideways.
How do you arrange plates on a dining table?
The dinner plate is positioned in the center of the place setting and everything else is placed around it. Then, the flatware is arranged around the plate in the order in which it will be used: To the left of the plate is the fork. To the right of the plate is the knife and spoon.
How do you keep plates on a dining room table?
If a salad is to be served, the salad fork is placed to the left of the dinner fork. If soup is served, set the bowl on the plate and a soup spoon to the right of the beverage spoon. Salad or bread and butter plates go to the left of the forks.
Where does the salad plate go on the table?
Put soup bowls on top of the dinner plates. Salad plates go above the forks to the left side of the dinner plate. Position bread plates slightly above the salad plate closer to the dessert fork. Flatware should be laid out in the order that guests will use it: Work your way from the outside in.
Should salad be served on a plate or in a bowl?
If soup is served as a first course, the soup bowl will be on a service plate. A salad, if served as a first course, may be placed on the service plate, and the salad plate will then be removed.
How do you set a table at home?
Lay the place mat on the table. Put the dinner plate in the middle of the place mat. Lay the napkin to the left of the plate. Place the fork on the napkin. To the right of the plate, place the knife closest to the plate, blade pointing in.
