In the case of credit cards, holds may last as long as thirty days, depending on the issuing bank.
Typically if it is related to a risk and security issue, the payment processor can hold the funds up to 180 days.
The time that it takes for a merchant who accepts a credit card as payment until the time the funds are deposited into the merchant's bank account can vary depending on the type of merchant account the business owner uses. Typically, a payment can take anywhere from 24 hours up to three days to process the payment.
Authorization Hold Time Limits and Misuse Fees The time limit for an authorization hold will depend on the business's merchant classification code (MCC). Most debit card transactions have a hold of one to eight business days. For credit card transactions, the hold might last as long as a month.
A merchant account hold or funds hold is when a credit card processor retains the money from specific credit card sales instead of depositing it into your account. Note that holds are different from ACH delays and rolling reserves. Both ACH delays and rolling reserves are risk mitigation tools for the processor.
