What is causing Venezuela's blackouts?
Engineers and analysts quoted by The Guardian say the cause is underfunding and mismanagement, including the deployment of soldiers to operate electrical substations instead of electricians. A fault affected three large cables from the Simón Bolivar Hydroelectric Plant, which supply 80% of Venezuela's power.

According to reports, the outage was caused by a transformer fire within the affected region. Power was fully restored by early the following morning.
