Copy or place the images you want to combine into the same document. Select the layers you want to blend. (Optional) Align the layers. With the layers still selected, choose Edit > Auto-Blend Layers. Select the Auto-Blend Objective:
Select the objects you want to blend. Choose Object > Blend > Make. Note: By default, Illustrator calculates the optimum number of steps to create a smooth color transition. To control the number of steps or distance between steps, set blending options.
Select the image's layer. Click the Add layer mask icon at the bottom of the layers' palette. A layer mask is created in the image layer. Select the gradient tool and apply a black/white gradient to the image layer.
Create the shape of your gradient with the selection tools. Select the gradient tool. Select the colors for your gradient using the two squares in the bottom right. Select the type of gradient you want. Click and hold to set the starting point of the gradient.

Create 2 layers in photoshop. In the 1st layer place your image content. Click the 2nd layer. Select White as the foreground & background color (by clicking the color swatches on the toolbar) Click the gradient tool, and choose the “opaque to transparent” gradient (the 2nd gradient in the palette)
