Open Messages. Press the Menu icon located in the upper-right corner. Select Blocked contacts. Tap Add a number to add a number you wish to block. If you ever wish to remove a number from the blacklist, return to the Blocked contacts screen, and select the X next to the number.
Method #1: Use Android's Messaging App to Block Texts If your phone is running Android KitKat or above, then your default messaging app must have a spam filter. Just tap on Add to Spam and confirm the prompt to blacklist the number of the sender, so you will never receive messages from them again.
Most Android phones have a native number blocking feature. This means that you can block numbers from calling and texting you through the settings of your Android phone. Calls from blocked numbers will go straight to voicemail and text messages from blocked numbers will go undelivered.
When you block a contact, their texts go nowhere. The person whose number you've blocked won't receive any sign that their message to you was blocked. Their text will simply sit there looking as though it were sent and not yet delivered, but in fact, it will be lost to the ether.
There really is no surefire way to determine whether someone has blocked your text messages, however if you try voice calling that number, and you're blocked the call will either fail or go directly to that person's voice mail. I'm speaking primarily from the point of view of using an Android device over Verizon.
Block someone from calling or texting you one of two ways: To block someone who has been added to your phone's Contacts, go to Settings > Phone > Call Blocking and Identification > Block Contact. In instances where you want to a block a number that isn't stored as a contact in your phone, go to the Phone app > Recent's.
