Should you apply lime before rain?

If heavy rain is on the way, delay applying lime or fertilizer until after the showers are over. Water your lawn to moisten the grass and soil before applying lime and fertilizer. After applying these products, give the lawn another sprinkle to encourage the soil to absorb the minerals and nutrients.

Should I water lawn after applying lime?

You can also apply lime in early spring. Don't apply lime when your lawn is frost-covered or wilted. And always water the lawn after applying the lime to wash the lime off the grass blades and allow it to make contact with the soil.

Can I apply lime to a wet lawn?

Spring is a great time to test your soil, and you can apply lime between fall and early spring. Many gardeners prefer to lime just before the first frost in fall because the soil has all winter to absorb the lime. Don't spread lime on a dry, wilted lawn or a soggy, wet lawn. Don't lime during frosty weather.

Can you apply lime and fertilizer at the same time?

To save you time (and likely money), it's okay to apply lime and fertilizer at the same time. The fertilizer will provide an immediate supply of nutrients to the soil, while the lime will release slowly over time and maintain the appropriate pH balance.

How do I know if my lawn needs lime?

Your lawn is yellow instead of green. Your lawn becomes too weedy. Soil test reveals (with a pH test kit) a pH level lower than between pH 6.2-7.0. The fertilizer you apply does not seem to be working.

Does rain wash away lime?

It will not wash through the layer that quick, should be fine. It takes a while before you will see much of a difference in the PH, if anything it was probably good to get it washed in. I was hoping the heavy rain did not “wash it away”.

Can you lime in the rain?

If heavy rain is on the way, delay applying lime or fertilizer until after the showers are over. In fact, wait for your property to drain thoroughly. Never add lime and fertilizer to soggy soil, and certainly not if the lawn has puddles. On the other hand, don't put lime and fertilizer on limp, dry grass either.

How Long Should fertilizer be down before it rains?

Too much rain washes away the fertilizer before it is able to soak into the soil. Often, it is best to play it safe with your investment. This means fertilizing two days before rain arrives. The Southwest Florida Water Management District places the necessary time period between fertilizing and rainfall at 36 hours.
