Time series graphs can be used to visualize trends in counts or numerical values over time. Because date and time information is continuous categorical data (expressed as a range of values), points are plotted along the x-axis and connected by a continuous line. To create a time series plot in Excel, first select the time (Daytime in this case) Column and then the data series (stream flow in this case) column. Next, click on the Insert ribbon, and then select Scatter. From scatter plot options, select Scatter with Smooth Lines as shown below.
