When you type in a document, Word automatically counts the number of pages and words in your document and displays them on the status bar at the bottom of the workspace. If you don't see the word count in the status bar right-click the status bar and click Word Count.
To count the number of words in only part of your document, select the text you want to count. Then on the Tools menu, click Word Count. Just like the Word desktop program, Word for the web counts words while you type.
Step 1: Count words per each line. Step 2: Count the lines per page. Step 3: Multiply. Step 4: Because you already know the numbers of words per page, now multiply 176 by the total pages of your composition/essay.
If you want to count only some text of your document, select the text. To display extended statistics such as character count, double-click the word count in the status bar, or choose Tools — Word Count.
