At the bottom of a check, you will see three groups of numbers. The first group is your routing number, the second is your account number and the third is your check number.
This 9-digit number identifies your bank. The number starts with 0, 1, 2, or 3. This checking account number, assigned by your bank, is 4 digits or more. There are 5 lines available for the personalization of your checks.
The check number is usually the last set of numbers on your personal check. It's also the shortest set of numbers on the check, typically 3 or 4 digits long. Your check number helps you keep track of which check you're writing.
A check number is simply a reference number that helps you keep track of the checks you write. It will help you balance your checkbook and keep track of which checks have been processed by your bank (and which checks are still outstanding).
The routing number for checking accounts is printed on checks. It's the 9-digit number on the bottom, located on the far left.
The amendment of Code Line format includes the increase in number of digits for bank code from 2 digits to 3 digits, branch code from 3 digits to 4 digits, and check number from 7 digits to 8 digits.
In the upper right-hand corner is three or four-digit number, which is your check number.
