good afternoon everyone thank you for your patience and thank you for joining us today my name is Stuart Icahn and I'm vice president for product management a Texas dart today's live web event entitled new DoD cyber requirements will affect you in 2020 how your organization will be affected and how to prepare is both timely and important Katy Arrington chief information security officer office of the Undersecretary of defense for acquisition and sustainment will tell us about a program entitled cybersecurity maturity model certification or CMMC which originated earlier this year in which will go into effect in 2020 it's a great honor to introduce miss Katie Arrington miss Arrington is chief information security office for the office of the Undersecretary of defense for acquisition in this position she serves as the central hub and integrator within the office of the Undersecretary of defense for acquisition and sustainment to align acquisition cyber strategy as a cyber lead and programmatic analytic adviser for strategic cyber programs Ms Arrington is responsible for conducting analysis within major defense acquisition program portfolio and across the department of defense Katie welcome so let me start so from our work at XO star we know that prime contractors are very aware of cyber security model certification or CMMC they're engaged in DoD forums soliciting input and feedback but at the same time suppliers across the dibbs seem to be less aware and many don't seem to have CMMC on their radar screens at all so before we get into the details of CMMC can you explain the catalyst for its creation why has securing the DoD supply chain become a national security imperative well first and foremost we need to look at what the DoD supply chain looks like right now today it's about 300,000 companies and the vast majority of those companies about 290,000 have no cyber requirements whatsoever our adversaries you know we can all go through the countries that don't that want to get into our networks and into our supply chain but if we don't understand that this is a collective issue that everybody needs to have cyber security requirements and the in their their day to day business we're never going to get ahead of this game so with our adversaries exfilling about six hundred billion dollars a year from the United States and let's break that down to taxpayers you and me that breaks down to after taxes each u.s. citizen is losing $4,000 a year $4,000 that's a pretty good trip to Disneyland for me and my grandkids we have to get the national discussion going about how important cybersecurity is not just to the national defense but to your business to your private life and this the CMMC with with losing that amount of money every single year with the defense budget at 750 billion we are losing almost the equivalent of the Department of Defense budget every single year so that's why the time is now for this emmc we can't wait we've got to get cyber...
