For pdfFiller’s FAQs

Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
1 : a usually descriptive name given instead of or in addition to the one belonging to a person, place, or thing. 2 : a familiar form of a proper name (as of a person or a city) nickname. Verb. Nicknamed. Nicknaming. Nicknames.
A form of nickname has been around since the early 14th century- eke name, literally meaning an additional name. Eke is an even older word, dating back to about 1200 meaning to increase. (Eke also meant to lengthen, and it was this meaning that eventually became the meaning of to eke out or make just enough.)
History of Nickname In this case, the Middle English word eke, meaning also or in addition, was joined with name to form ekenameliterally, also-name, used for a secondary or unofficial name in the late Middle Ages. Over time, an eke name became a nickname presumably because eke had become less familiar as a word.
The Origin Of The Nickname Term One of the first instances where the 'eke name' was actually documented took place back in the year 1303. This happened in Middle English devotional Handling Lynne. That was written by Robert Manning of Brunner. From there, the 'eke name' ultimately evolved to the term 'nickname.
Buck Name Meaning. English: nickname for a man with some fancied resemblance to a he-goat (Old English Buck(a)) or a male deer (Old English Buck). German: from a personal name, a short form of Burkhart (see Burkhart). North German and Danish: nickname for a fat man, from Middle Low German BUK 'belly'.
noun. A name added to or substituted for the proper name of a person, place, etc., as in affection, ridicule, or familiarity: He has always loathed his nickname of Whizzed. A familiar form of a proper name, as Jim for James and Peg for Margaret.
A nickname can be a shortened or modified variation on a person's real name. Phonetic spelling : Sometimes a nickname is created through the phonetic spelling of a name: Len from Leonard.
4. Hypocorism: (also known as a pet name or calling name), is a shorter or diminutive form of a word or given name, for example, when used in more intimate situations as a nickname or term of endearment.
