From the Home screen, tap the app slider, then open the Messaging app. From the main list of message threads, tap Menu then choose Settings. Select Notifications. Select Sound, then choose the tone for text messages or choose None.
The other cause of phantom notifications with a sound, but no message is Mail. Go to Settings app, find and click Mail app, then click Notifications and switch Allow Notifications on. Then when the notification sounds, you will see it on your device's home screen.
Solution: Try checking the notification setting of the messages app and make sure that it is turned on. To do this go to Settings Notifications Make sure that the switch is on for Messages. Try also changing the notification sound for messages as the current notification sound might have a problem.
