good solid editor-- would like to see other payment choices, like a quarterly option, and even instead of relying on automatic renewal, send a reminder email prior to the renewal to ensure the user is still consistently using product

Coat the exposed end grain of the logs or boards with a thick layer of paint, varnish or a commercial green-wood sealer to prevent moisture from escaping too quickly. Wood loses moisture 10 to 15 times faster through the ends than it does through the faces.
To prevent this undesirable drying, shrinking and cracking, the simple solution is to keep the outside of the log wet. In other words, keep the water in the wood. Many carvers go to great lengths to avoid using green, freshly cut wood. A common concern is cracking or checking because the wood is wet.

A: Wood cracks because the fibers shrink as they dry out. The cells vary in size and orientation, so they can deform the wood as they pull against one another as they shrink. To minimize the effects of this shrinking, you need to either seal or stabilize the wood fibers while the wood is still green.
It is possible to turn and finish green wood the same day. It is more difficult to sand green wood and the finished piece will have a higher probability of checking or cracking, and it will probably warp out of the shape you turn i.e.

From Gene Winger, forum technical advisor: As a rule of thumb, there will be a measurable loss in four to six weeks of warm (over 50 F) weather. It is just a rule of thumb.
You should seal the ends within minutes after being cut down. You should not wait hours, and definitely not days! The drying time will vary depending on the wood species and thickness of the logs, but they will take at least one to two years to dry the longer you can leave them before you start building the better.
