Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Can you build up to the boundary line?
In general, your neighbor only has the right to build up to the boundary line (line of junction) between the two properties, but there are circumstances when they can legitimately build on your land. You can give consent for them to build a new party wall and foundations on your land.
How close to the boundary can I build?
How close can you build to the boundaries? On any site the building must be 1.5 m from the side boundaries, 3.0 m from the rear and 3.0 m from the front. If this is the only accessory building that will be on site it can be 1.0 m from the side boundary, 1.5 m from the rear and 3.0 m from the front.
How close to my boundary can I build an extension?
For those building a double extension on their property, you cannot go closer than seven meters to the boundary. Any pitch on the roof that is higher than one story must match the existing pitch on the property. Under permitted development you cannot add balconies, raised platforms or verandas.
How close can I build to the boundary Auckland?
How close may I build to the boundary? You can build up to a height of 2.5 m high on the boundary, if the Height in Relation to Boundary Rule applies. However, first floor windows of habitable rooms in the Living and Rural Villages Environments must be at least 1.2 m from the boundary.
How close to a boundary can I build a conservatory?
If a conservatory (at side or rear) is within two meters of a boundary maximum eaves' height should be no higher than three meters to be permitted development.
Can you build against a Neighbor's wall?
Hypothetically speaking, without seeing the exact dimensions of the property, you can build your foundations up to the boundary with your adjoining neighbor. Official permission can sometimes be required when existing building works has something new built on it.

How close to a boundary wall can you build?
As a rule of thumb, a build that reaches 7.2 feet is considered acceptable and anything over that we do recommend speaking to your neighbor.
