Used the product a few times (PDF editor) and really liked it but disn't use it enough to warrant purchase. I forgot to cancel the free trial and was charged the annual fee a few weeks later. The company immediately refunded me when I requested it, and did so without question or issue.

Should you give a security deposit before signing lease?
Confirm before your lease signing that you have enough money in your checking account to cover these costs. Some landlords will ask you to pay your first month's rent and security deposit with a certified check provided by your bank to verify you won't overdraw your account.
Can a landlord keep a security deposit without a signed lease?
It is possible you have a lease without signing, but it may be hard to prove. The receipt of a deposit may have created an agreement, but the agreement may only have limited rights, rather than being a full lease. You're usually entitled to it back. Some landlords try to keep some, or even all, of a deposit.
Can landlord keep security deposit without lease?
If you change your mind within that period, the landlord cannot hold your deposit. Virtually all residential leases are required to be in writing, so, if you haven't signed a lease, there is no lease. It is possible to have a verbal agreement, but it may be hard to prove in court.
