Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
DD is an abbreviation for Document Discriminator, a piece of information that several states started adding to their driver's licenses. The DD is a security code that identifies where and when the license was issued. It uniquely identifies each card that was issued to a given individual.
A real ID is a form of identification that meets increased security standards for state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards. Travelers will be required to provide either a real ID or another TSA-approved form of identification in order to fly after October 1, 2020.
REAL ID-compliant cards are marked with a star at the top of the card. If you're not sure, contact your state driver's license agency on how to obtain a REAL ID compliant card. For info by state, including where to obtain a REAL ID, visit the DHS REAL ID website and click your state on the map.
Come fall 2020, every U.S. air traveler will be required to present a Real ID-compliant license, or another acceptable form of identification such as a U.S. passport, to board a domestic flight. The change, the last phase of implementation of the federal law known as the Real ID Act, goes into effect Oct. 1, 2020.
Does a Real ID Replace a Passport? The short answer: no. You'll need a REAL ID at minimum for domestic travel come October 2020, and your passport can work in place of a REAL ID for domestic travel but a valid passport will still be required for international travel.
A: For people whose driver license or identification card expires between now and the federal deadline of Oct. 1, 2020, the DMV recommends that they wait to apply for their REAL ID at the time of their renewal or within 120 days of the expiration date.
To get a Real ID, you need to present documents to your motor vehicle department proving your age and identity, Social Security number and address. That generally means bringing a birth certificate or passport, a Social Security card or tax form such as a W-2, and two proofs of address.
The REAL ID Act establishes minimum security standards for license issuance and production and prohibits Federal agencies from accepting for certain purposes' driver's licenses and identification cards from states not meeting the Act's minimum standards.
What is a REAL ID? A REAL ID is a driver license or identification card that is also a federally accepted form of identification. It can be used to board a domestic flight within the U.S. and enter secure federal facilities, such as military bases, federal courthouses, and other secure federal locations.
The law outlined the minimum security standards for state-issued driver licenses and identification cards following the 9/11 attacks in 2001. REAL ID was initially designed to keep U.S. citizens from holding multiple licenses, social security numbers and to allow government officials to check immigration standing.
