For pdfFiller’s FAQs

Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Unfortunately, a letter of resignation does not comply with the official legal requirements of a formal termination of contract, meaning it's not legally binding: the law requires that a termination of contract must be written and signed by hand. To make it count, your intention to resign must be handwritten.
Keep it professional. Keep it short and sweet. Provide reasons for leaving (optional). Remain polite. Say thank you to your employer for the role. Offer to help in the transition period. Avoid personal criticism. Finish your resignation letter positively.
Clearly state your objective in an introduction. Communicate your final date of employment. Offer a reason for your leave (optional) Offer to help train colleagues or otherwise ease the transition. Give thanks for the opportunity and include a polite outro. Include your signature at the end.
When you leave your job, you may need to claim benefits until you find work again. You are likely to be penalized by the loss of benefits for around three months if you left your last job voluntarily, unless you can show that you did so for good reason. This is called a sanction.
You are entitled to receive some benefits by law2. Your employer may opt to provide additional benefits other than those mandated by state or federal law. Ask about severance pay, accrued vacation, overtime and sick pay, pension benefits, and eligibility for unemployment insurance.
When to Give the Letter to Your Employer It's polite to send this letter out well in advance of your departure (especially as required by contract), with two weeks in advance being generally accepted as the minimum unless there are circumstances where you need to resign without advance notice or with short notice.
You Found a New Job. Obviously, the best reason for quitting a job is that you've found a new one. You Hate Your Job. Don't quit your job right away, even if you hate it. Illness. Difficult Work Environment. Schedules and Hours. Going Back to School. Career Change. Relocation.
It is a common misconception that an employee's notice of resignation is not valid unless it has been “accepted" by the employer. The position at common law is that a notice, once validly given, is effective and can neither be “refused" by the employer or "withdrawn" by the employee, without the other's agreement.

Preliminary acknowledgment. Acknowledge the intention to accept an employee's resignation. Formal response. Use a formal business letter format. State your acceptance. Show compassion. Protect yourself. Use a professional format. Be mindful of your subject line. Invite the employee to keep in touch.
An employer cannot legally refuse your resignation. If you have signed a contract stating you will give proper notice before leaving the company, and you do in fact give that amount of notice, that is that. In layman's terms, you're basically quitting on good grounds. They cannot force you to stay.

Just because an employee has resigned does not mean an employer cannot take disciplinary action against him should the employer need to. Therefore, if an employee commits misconduct during this period (or the employer becomes aware of misconduct), the employee can still be disciplined.
