Format numbers as currency. You can display a number with the default currency symbol by selecting the cell or range of cells, and then clicking Accounting Number Format in the Number group on the Home tab. (If you want to apply the Currency format instead, select the cells, and press Ctrl+Shift+$.)
Accounting. Like the Currency format, the Accounting format is used for monetary values. But, this format aligns the currency symbols and decimal points of numbers in a column. In addition, the Accounting format displays zeros as dashes and negative numbers in parentheses.
Both the Currency and Accounting number formats add a currency symbol, use commas to separate thousands, and display two decimal places. Here's where these two formats differ: Currency format: Displays the currency symbol immediately to the left of the number and gives you a choice of how to display negative numbers.
Currency numbers There is also a three-digit code number assigned to each currency, in the same manner as there is also a three-digit code number assigned to each country as part of ISO 3166. This numeric code is usually the same as the ISO 3166-1 numeric code.
Format a cell for currency by right-clicking on the cell and selecting “Format Cells”. On the “Number” tab, under “Category” select “Currency”. On the right-hand side select the number of decimal places and the currency symbol you'd like your cell to have, then click “OK”.
Like the Currency format, the Accounting number format is designed for numbers with currency symbols. The main difference between Currency and Accounting formats is that Accounting aligns currency symbols to the left in each cell, and displays zero values with a hyper.
If you are writing out an amount in euros, use the currency symbol or euro sign . Note that the symbol goes before the amount and that there is no space between them (e.g. 50).

The symbol for the Euro is, and it is often placed after the number, unlike the pound sign — £ — which is placed before the number. One Euro is divided into 100 cents. Originally called the ECU (European Currency Unit), the name 'Euro' came into being in 1995.
