Teacher pay But charter school teachers can't do much to raise their compensation to match the amount they work. Most charter schools don't allow unions, making collective bargaining for higher wages near impossible. In fact, some charter school teachers make much less than their public school counterparts.
District schools can access funding through property taxes and local bonds and overrides; public charter schools cannot. According to a June analysis by the Joint Legislative Budget Committee, a public charter school student will receive $951 less from all funding sources than a student in a public school district.
