Although most might think so, the two weeks notice rule doesn't come from a law there are no federal or state laws that require an employee to provide two weeks' notice to his or her employer before quitting but instead, it's more based on professionalism, courtesy and individual company policies.
Give two weeks notice, if possible. It is standard to give at least two weeks notice to your boss when you want to quit. Tell your boss in person. Keep it positive, or neutral. Keep it brief. Offer to help with the transition. Write a resignation letter. Say goodbye to coworkers.
Step 1: Do you definitely want to leave? Step 2: Find another job. Step 3: Be careful who you tell. Step 4: Write your letter. Step 5: Talk to your Manager one-on-one. Step 6: Consider your counter-offer. Step 7: Be prepared for the worst case scenario. Step 8: Hand in your notice (letter).
4 tips for handing in your notice: Share what makes your new role different and slightly more suitable. Don't accept counter offers. Confirm your intention to leave in writing, so it won't delay your leave date.
