Method 1: Enable EFS Using Windows Registry The encryption option may be grayed out because some registry values are not set properly. Go back to the folder which you want to encrypt and click Properties\\Advanced\\Advance Attribute” option. The option of encryption will no longer be grayed out.
According to users, if to encrypt folder option is grayed out on your Windows 10 PC, it's possible that the required services aren't running. File encryption relies on the Encrypting File System (EFS) service, and in order to fix this problem, you need to do the following: Press Windows Key + R and enter services.
From the Start menu, select Programs or All Programs, then Accessories, and then Windows Explorer. Right-click the file or folder you want to encrypt, and then click Properties. On the General tab, click Advanced. Check Encrypt contents to secure data.
Double-click on it, and set its value to 0. Save the settings and close all open windows. Go back to Properties\\Advanced\\Advance Attribute option of your required folder which you want to encrypt. The option of encryption will no longer be grayed out.
