It'd be helpful if there was a visual display on the side when selecting a document, so that I could see what I'm looking at and have the ability to rename it without completely opening it.

Select an email template in the templates tree. Press the F4 key on your keyboard or the Edit icon in the toolbar: Also, you can right-click on the template and select the Edit option: Make the necessary changes and click Save to save the template in Outlook.
Click File > Open. Double-click This PC. (In Word 2013, double-click Computer). Browse to the Custom Office Templates folder that's under My Documents. Click your template, and click Open. Make the changes you want, then save and close the template.
Open the Microsoft Word Template file (*.dot) Edit it. Save it under another name. Close Microsoft Word. Delete the original and rename the new one to replace the original.
If you want to edit a template, choose Reopen. Change the Format to Template, and then navigate to the Templates folder, select the template you want, and then click Open. When you open a template this way, it opens the template itself, as opposed to a new file based on the template.
1. Go to the default location where the template is saved, double click to open it. 2. Edit the template and save the changes, and you may use the template with the updated content.
