Double-click the cell in which you want to insert a line break. Click the location where you want to break the line. Press ALT+ENTER to insert the line break.
Insert the line break. Hit the key combination Shift + Enter to create a line break. You will now be able to add content in the line right after the break. Notice that the cursor will not situate itself in the blank space where the break is when you click on the space. This is the line break.
Start a new line of text inside a cell in Excel. To start a new line of text or add spacing between lines or paragraphs of text in a worksheet cell, press Alt+Enter to insert a line break. Click the location where you want to break the line. Press Alt+Enter to insert the line break.
Stay in the same cell after pressing the Enter key with Shortcut Keys. In Excel, you can also use shortcut keys to solve this task. After entering the content, please press Ctrl + Enter keys together instead of just Enter key, and you can see the entered cell is still selected.
The answer is to use Control + Option + Enter, which will create a line break in the cell. As an alternative, Control + Command + Enter can also be used to achieve the same. These combinations work both in Excel for Mac 2011 and the new Excel for Mac 2015.
If you want to create the equivalent of a carriage return within an Excel cell, hit ALT+Enter. The cursor will stay within the cell being edited, but will drop to the next line.
Whenever you press the Return or Enter key while editing a document, the word processor inserts a hard return. Hard returns cause the word processor to start a new line regardless of how margins are set. Therefore, if a document contains hard returns, the lines will end at the same place even if you change the margins.
