Login to the US License Manager with your FCC Registration Number (FAN). From your License At A Glance page, choose the Renewal link in the right-hand menu called Work on this License.
The duration of the license period is laid out in 47 CFR 73.1020. All broadcast stations are typically licensed for a period of eight years. If the FCC feels that the public interest will be better served by granting a broadcaster a shorter license period, they may do so.
The FCC Database is updated every day. If you took the test then check every evening. It takes about 1 week if you already have a FAN number. Maybe 10 days to 2 weeks if this is your first license.
For those who are unfamiliar with the process, the FCC renews broadcast radio and television station licenses for eight-year terms (with a few rare exceptions). So, current license holders must file a separate application for each station every eight years requesting a license renewal and pay the required filing fee.
To renew or update a license, amateurs may file manually using FCC Form 605 or file interactively on the FCC US website via the License Manager System using their FCC issued Federal Registration Number (FAN) and password. FCC permits administrative updates and call sign changes at any time.
Licenses currently remain valid for 10 years from the date of issuance or renewal. Renewal can be done on-line. The entry-level license, known as Technician Class, is awarded after an applicant successfully completes a 35-question multiple choice written examination.
If you are a ham radio operator and are less than 90 days from your license expiration date, or if your license expired less than two years ago, you can renew your ham radio license on-line from your computer. You won't need to take the examination again.
Amateur radio licenses in the United States are issued and renewed by the Federal Communications Commission without charge, although the private individuals who administer the examinations may recoup their expenses by charging a fee. Licenses currently remain valid for 10 years from the date of issuance or renewal.
Morse code is no longer required for earning an amateur radio license in the U.S. In a statement, the FCC joined an international trend by announcing the elimination of testing for proficiency in Morse code for all amateur radio license classes.
