2 things I would like to see changed. The original custom color selector was better than the these presets that are available now. The other is the sizes of the font jump by twos, an input to put in a custom font size would be great

Right-click on the Area series (which is still of type XY), and choose Change Series Chart Type. In Excel 2013, the Change Chart Type dialog appears. Click the Chart type dropdown in each of the Area series rows, and select Stacked Area.
To change the background of your graph, click in the space between the plot area and the edge of your graph. Then, click the Drawing toolbar's Fill Color tool and select a color from the palette. As soon as you do, Excel changes the background of your chart, filling it with the color you selected.
