Automatically adjust your table or columns to fit the size of your content by using the AutoFit button. On the Layout tab, in the Cell Size group, click AutoFit. To adjust column width automatically, click AutoFit Contents. To adjust table width automatically, click AutoFit Window.

Select your table, and right-click on the anchor to bring up the Table Properties menu. Click on “Table Properties...”, then in the Table Properties dialog click on “Options”. Uncheck “Automatically resize to fit contents”
Click the Layout tab of the Table Tools contextual tab in the Ribbon. Click the AutoFit button in the Cell Size button group. Then select the method of adjustment to apply from the drop-down menu. You can select AutoFit Contents to resize the cells to fit their content.
Drag the far right column to as wide as you want the table. Select the whole table. Select Distribute Columns Evenly from the Table > AutoFit menu (Word 2003) or the AutoFit button on the Cell Size panel in the Table Tools ribbon > Layout tab (Word 2007).
