How do feed-in tariffs work? The Fit scheme provides a subsidy to any household or businesses that generates its own renewable electricity. This payment is funded by a small increase in people's energy bills. Payments are based on your meter readings and paid by your energy supplier.
Feed-in Tariff with Good Energy The Feed-in Tariff (Fit) is a payment made to those who generate their own renewable electricity. Helping individuals and businesses to generate their own clean power is at the heart of what we do.
The tariffs last 20 years for almost all the systems, except solar PV (25 years for systems installed before 1st August 2012) and micro-CHP (10 years).
The money you receive for both the Generation and Export tariff doesn't come from the government it is actually paid by the energy suppliers. The suppliers pass on the cost of the Feed-In Tariff to their electricity customers, essentially making traditional energy consumers pay for your self-generated electricity.
Feed-in tariffs (FIT) are fixed electricity prices that are paid to renewable energy (RE) producers for each unit of energy produced and injected into the electricity grid. ... The Feed-In Tariffs therefore give you three separate financial benefits: A generation tariff payment, which is based on the total electricity generated and the energy type. An export tariff payment, which is for any energy exports made when generating more than you use.

Solar panel feed-in tariff payments This means that as well as the energy savings they get from having solar panels they can be paid a guaranteed rate for every kilowatt-hour (kWh) unit of electricity they generate through the generation tariff and out into the grid through the export tariff.
