Automatically adjust your table or columns to fit the size of your content by using the AutoFit button. On the Layout tab, in the Cell Size group, click AutoFit. To adjust column width automatically, click AutoFit Contents. To adjust table width automatically, click AutoFit Window.
Open the Word document with the table you want to adjust. Click “Page Layout” on the Ribbon and select “Margins.” Click the “Narrow” option or one of the other predefined margin sizes. Click “Custom Margins” if one of the predefined margin sizes does not meet your needs.
Click the Layout tab of the Table Tools contextual tab in the Ribbon. Click the AutoFit button in the Cell Size button group. Then select the method of adjustment to apply from the drop-down menu. You can select AutoFit Contents to resize the cells to fit their content.
Click anywhere in the table. In “Table Tools” click the [Layout] tab > locate the “Cell Size” group and choose from of the following options: To fit the columns to the text (or page margins if cells are empty), click [AutoFit] > select “AutoFit Contents.”
