Log into your server via SSH. Navigate to the directory location you wish to create the file, or edit an existing file. Type in vim followed by the name of the file. Click the letter 'i' on your keyboard to enter INSERT mode in 'vim'. Start typing into the file.
If you want to edit a file using terminal, press i to go into insert mode. Edit your file and press ESC and then :w to save changes and :q to quit.
Open a terminal window. Go to the directory where you want to create the file. Type vi nameoffile. Txt and press Enter. Type i to enter insert/editing mode. Enter your text. Press Esc to enter command mode. Type :we and press Enter.
Open the file in vim with the command “vim”. Type “/” and then the name of the value you would like to edit and press Enter to search for the value in the file. Type “i” to enter insert mode. Modify the value that you would like to change using the arrow keys on your keyboard.

Basically, the command is asking to type a desired text you want to write to a file. If you want to keep the file empty just press CTRL+D or if you want to write the content to the file, type it and then press CTRL+D. The content has been saved to the file, and you will be returned to the main terminal.
