I am a rookie user born of necessity since some pdf forms I needed to fill out on a website were not cooperating. I'm hooked. Very convenient and easy to use and saved me on more than one occasion (same type of issue). Now that my "crisis" is over, I want to delve into the product and actually unlock it's potential.

In Design view, right-click anywhere in the column that contains the field you want to format, and then choose Properties from the shortcut menu. Click in the Format property, and then click the arrow to display the format options. Choose a format option from the drop-down list.
Press Ctrl + Enter on your keyboard to open the table in design view. Select the field in the design grid whose properties you want to set. In the Field Properties section at the bottom of the window, select the General tab. Click into the Format field property box and click the drop-down arrow that appears.
Create a table with a field of type Currency. In the lower pane of table design view, set the Format property to "Currency". Save the table, and close the database. Open the Windows Control Panel. Go to Regional Options, and change the Currency setting. Open your database again. Open your table in design view.
In the Navigation Pane, locate and double-click the table that you want to change. Access opens the table in Datasheet view. Select the field (the column) that you want to change. On the Fields tab, in the Properties group, click the arrow in the drop-down list next to Data Type, and then select a data type.
The Format property affects only how data is displayed. It doesn't affect how data is stored. Microsoft Office Access 2007 provides predefined formats for Date/Time, Number and Currency, Text and Memo, and Yes/No data types. You can use the following symbols in custom formats for any data type.
In form Design view or report Design view, select the control, section, form, or report for which you want to set the property. Display the property sheet by right-clicking the object or section and then choosing Properties on the shortcut menu, or by choosing Properties on the toolbar.
Field Formats. * Custom formats are unique formats you create. You specify text to be inserted in an input string and where the text is to be inserted. For example, assume the input string is "123456789" and the custom format string is "3,-,2,-".
