Stop notifications from just one person Go back to Settings > Notifications and scroll down until you find Messages. In the Messages section choose to Allow Notifications (if you'd turned it off in the step above). Now open the Messages app and find the conversation you wish to silence.
Your phone may not be on “Do Not Disturb,” but that conversation is — it's a separate setting from your phone's “Do Not Disturb” setting. Just go into that conversation → Details → toggle the Do Not Disturb switch, and you should have your notifications back.
To turn of notifications for a friend, just enter a chat on the Friends screen. Then, tap the menu in the upper left-corner and toggle the switch next to Do Not Disturb. To make sure that the change took, just see if the snoring emoji (the one with the three Z's) appear next to their name in the Chat menu.
You may also turn off message notifications by going to Settings > Notifications > Messages > Allow Notifications. However, these options will mute all text messages that you will receive. Let's say that you are getting a lot of messages from a person.
